#EndorseThis: Trump Can’t Understand Why Bitherism Would Bother Voters

In an interview with Bill O’Reilly on Fox News Tuesday night, GOP nominee Donald Trump was asked whether he felt his incorrect claims of President Obama being born in Africa have hurt him with black voters. Trump couldn’t seem to understand why that might be the case.

At first, the Republican nominee attempted to hedge his way out of O’Reilly’s question: “I don’t know. I have no idea. I don’t even talk about it anymore Bill because I don’t bother talking about it.”

While O’Reilly acknowledged that, he also reminded Trump that his comments were “on the record,” at which point Trump expressed confusion as to why his birtherism theory would impact voters view of him.

“I guess with maybe some,” Trump managed to say. But then followed it up with, “I really don’t know why, you’re the first one who brought that up in a while. I don’t think so.”

POLITICO points out Trump’s claim that he hasn’t been asked about it in “a while” is actually false, as he was very recently asked about it by journalists and stated that he wouldn’t discuss it.

Leading up to the 2012 election, Trump widely and repeatedly said he believed President Obama was born in Kenya, at one point even promising to release evidence proving his theory (which he did not do). Trump continuously called for the president to release his birth certificate, which the Obama administration did in 2011. Even at that point, however, Trump called it a fraud.

Since running for office, however, Trump has said much less on the matter.
